BlueScope Steel Coated China was formed in 1997.  In 1998, BlueScope Steel transformed its Shanghai trading office into an import and distribution business, with specific emphasis on BlueScope Steel premium products, including Clean COLORBOND^® steel and ZINCALUME^® steel.  During this period of growth in the China market, BlueScope Steel has been focused on providing innovative products and inspired steel solutions to better meet the needs of our ever growing number of local Chinese customers.  Today, BlueScope Steel maintains a strong market position with broad brand awareness in the China Market, gained through years of close cooperation with design institutes, customers and distributors.

MCL and CPL in Suzhou

Due to sustained strong growth and a continued expansion of its downstream steel solutions businesses in China, BlueScope Steel commenced construction of a metallic coating and coil painting facility in 2004.  This project represents a capital investment of RMB1.68 billion, and ensures supply chain stability for our customers.  The coil paint line produced its first painted coil in February 2006.  The metallic coating line produced its first metallic coated coil mid 2006.
Located in Suzhou, 80km west of Shanghai, this coating facility can produce the full BlueScope Steel range of coated products, including the premium brands: ZINCALUME^® steel, Clean COLORBOND^® steel, AURORA^® steel and OPAL^® steel.  Designed to supply China’s booming building, construction and manufacture 250,000tonnes of pre-painted steel per annum.
All BlueScope Steel coating and downstream processing facilities in China are 100% owned by BlueScope Steel.
