The company was formerly known as John Lysaght and was first established in 1857. Today, BlueScope Lysaght has more than 150 years experience in developing, producing and marketing steel cladding systems. It now has 50 manufacturing centers throughout Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

In China, BlueScope Lysaght operates manufacturing facilities in Shanghai (Kangqiao) and Guangzhou which were opened in 1995. Two additional state-of-the-art factories were opened in Chengdu and Langfang in 2003. In 2006, BlueScope Lysaght opened an insolated panel business named Nectere in Langfang.
BlueScope Lysaght delivers its customers inspired construction solutions and service through a nation-wide network of 32 sales and technical offices. In the past 14 years, LYSAGHT® roofing, walling, structural purlin and decking systems have been extensively used by more than 2000 construction projects throughout China. These projects include power stations, industrial buildings, high-rise steel structure buildings, airports, sports stadiums and other public buildings as well as commercial and residential buildings. Landmark Projects include Shanghai Global Financial Centre, Tianjin Olympic Stadium, Beijing Capital Airport and Zhejiang Ninghai Power Station.
All LYSAGHT® systems in China adopt the LYSAGHT® global quality standards and are manufactured from BlueScope Steel's premium coated steel coils.
