For decades BlueScope Butler has demonstrated a commitment to excellence by operating one of the most extensive BUTLER research and testing facilities in the construction industry. Located in Grandview, Missouri, the BUTLER Research Center is devoted to the development and testing of new concepts, products and practices, as well as testing current practices and products now in use throughout the industry.

Strenuous Testing Yields Better Products
The structural integrity of your building cannot be taken for granted. Each component must meet certain minimum strength requirements, and the combination of these components must be certifiably strong, yet not over-designed. At BUTLER Research Center, all structural steel, panel materials, bolts, fasteners, and sealants are subject to a rigorous quality control program before being used on your building.
Component and system strength are studied with a variety of full-scale tests.

Protecting Your Investment
The coating on a metal panel provides more than an attractive appearance-it also provides protection for that panel.
Panel coatings are tested for abrasion, resistance, adhesion, color match, gloss, hardness, impact resistance, fineness of grind, hiding power, viscosity, density, thickness and a variety of environmental characteristics.
Each batch of paint is tested and approved before being used on your building.

Ensuring Real-World Performance
The Testing Laboratory performs quality control of materials and components, and investigates new materials, parts and processes. For example, the use of environment testing equipment enables the staff to predict actual field performance of a product and helps ensure that the products on your new building will stand up to weathering and age. Every supplier is rigorously tested on an on-going basis.

1. This test uses hydraulic pressure (arrows indicate direction of applied pressure) to measure the load bearing capacity of Delta Joist? structural members, and determines how much load the system can withstand before buckling occurs. This provides important data necessary for structural steel design.
2. This real-time test exposes panels from every Butler system to actual weather conditions. Panels remain exposed for the length of their respective warranties ¨C a minimum of 20 years.
3. This test measures the ultimate wind-induced uplift that a BUTLER? roof panel is able to withstand. The BUTLER capacity is in accordance with Factory Mutual, Corps of Engineers, Underwriters Laboratories and ASTM E 1592 test specifications.
4. This test measures the general effects of salt spray on the Finish system.
5. Using a combination of water, sulfur dioxide gas and heat, this test simulates an acid-rain environment. The long-term resistance of color pigments to acidic conditions is measured.
