BlueScope Steel China is Australia’s leading manufacturing investor in China, with a history of working in China for almost 90 years. We first started selling steel in China during 1918.

Our operations comprise seven world class building systems manufacturing facilities, a metal coating and painting facility, 57 sales and marketing offices, and approximately 2,000 employees.

BlueScope Steel established rollforming and manufacturing facilities here over 25 years ago which were known as Lysaght.

In April 2004, BlueScope Steel added to its Chinese portfolio of businesses by acquiring Butler Manufacturing. Butler was founded in 1901 and is the world's leading manufacturer and provider of pre-engineered steel building systems and has number one market positions in China and North America. 

These businesses provide comprehensive, customised and value-added building solutions.  The solution process is designed to meet customer's specific needs, including value engineering, design, manufacturing, project management, transportation, on-site consultation, construction services and local support.  These solutions are used in a wide range of buildings, including public, manufacturing, retail, warehouse, power station, high-rise and residential buildings.  They include pre-engineered metal building systems, steel cladding, decking and residential solutions as well as architectural building systems.

In 2004, BlueScope Steel also decided to build metal coating and coil painting facilities within China to compliment the Lysaght and Butler rollforming and PEB businesses.  The new facility was commissioned in 2006, and is located in Suzhou, 80 kms west of Shanghai and involved a capital investment of A$280 million. Our Suzhou plant is capable of manufacturing 250,000 tonnes of metallic coated steel and 150,000 tonnes of pre-painted steel on an annual basis.
