Our roots go back to The Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited, formed in 1885 to mine silver, lead and zinc in outback New South Wales and moving into steel manufacturing in 1915.
BlueScope Steel came into existence in July 2002 with our spin-out from BHP Billiton and public listing on the Australia Stock Exchange. The modern BlueScope Steel combines some of the most well-known and respected steel business in Australia, New Zealand and North America. Names such as John Lysaght , Australian Iron and Steel, New Zealand Steel, and Butler Manufacturing embody decades of experience and quality. Recent acquisitions, such as Smorgon Steel Distribution and IMSA Steel Corp, together with our established and growing network in Asia, have further strengthened BlueScope Steel operating the Asia-Pacific region's largest network of metallic coating and painting, rollforming and pre-engineered building facilities.

BlueScope Steel China consists of Butler Pre-Engineered Metal Building System, Lysaght Building System and metallic coating and painting line. BlueScope Steel China currently employs over 1800 people with 7 manufacturing sites and an extensive sales network across China. We have contributed to thousands of projects in China involve in fields such as Industrial and commercial, public buildings, power stations, high rise as well as residential.
